A Culinary Journey Through Switzerland – 5 Days of Indulgence
From regional cheeses and Swiss classics to sweet specialties and special moments of indulgence in the mountains—Switzerland offers a wonderful culinary journey. This five-day trip takes you from Aargau to the Bernese Oberland and combines regional producers, traditional specialties, and culinary experiences with a delightful dinner at select Swiss Quality Hotels.
Historic alleyways, a glass of wine, and your first gourmet evening—the trip couldn’t get off to a better start. Start by exploring charming Muri and its impressive monastery before indulging in the culinary delights of Aargau.
The region boasts a long tradition of winemaking. Spend the afternoon on an excursion to an Aargau winery and get to know regional wines during a tasting. Amid the vineyards and wine cellars, you’ll also learn more about winemaking in one of German-speaking Switzerland’s most diverse wine regions.
Back in Muri, your first gourmet evening awaits. At CASPAR | Das Drei-Häuser-Hotel, the Ochsen 1596 restaurant combines regional and seasonal ingredients with modern cuisine and traditional influences. Sit back and let the first day come to a close with a delicious dinner.
Today we’re heading to the home of one of the world’s most famous cheeses. The drive takes us through the rolling hills of the Emmental to the Emmental demonstration cheese dairy.
On the interactive “Königsweg” tour, you’ll follow the journey of Emmental AOP from milk all the way to the aging cellar. And of course, the best part comes last: during a tasting, you can directly compare different stages of aging for Emmental AOP.
Afterward, the journey continues to Schangnau. The next culinary experience awaits in the evening at the Landgasthof Kemmeriboden-Bad. Regional and seasonal products from the Emmental and Entlebuch play a key role in the kitchen.
And for dessert, there’s really only one choice: the legendary Kemmeriboden meringue with cream.
Today is all about sweets, and the view couldn’t be more spectacular. Nestled between the Eiger North Face and the Grindelwald mountains, you’ll discover local specialties that are an integral part of the region.
Start with an Eigerspitzli at the Grindelwald Terminal before continuing on toward Brandegg. There, a true classic awaits: the famous Öpfelchüechli. Served warm and surrounded by the impressive mountain scenery, they taste even better.
After an afternoon in the mountains, the culinary highlight of the day awaits in the evening: the gourmet restaurant “1910 · Gourmet by Hausers” at the Belvedere Swiss Quality Hotel. In this small, cozy restaurant with just six tables, you’ll enjoy modern fine dining that combines regional ingredients and sustainability with international influences. Vegetables, meat, and fish come from select local farms, while milk and cheese are sourced directly from Grindelwald.
The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star and 16 GaultMillau points, making this evening a truly special stop on your culinary journey.
From the deep-blue mountain lake straight to your plate: Today you’ll discover a very different Swiss specialty. Just a few minutes from Kandersteg lies the famous Blausee with its organic trout farm.
Take a stroll through the nature park to the crystal-clear lake and check out the trout farm. The fish are raised in the fresh mountain water of Blausee and have been part of this special place’s culinary history for many years.
If you’d like to make the day a bit more active, combine your visit with a walk through the nature park or around the lake.
In the evening, it’s back to Kandersteg. The next chapter of culinary delights awaits you at the Bernerhof Swiss Quality Hotel Kandersteg. Look forward to traditional Swiss cuisine and regional specialties.
For the finale, we head underground—more precisely, to the place where more than 3,000 cheese wheels are waiting to reach perfect maturity. In Gstaad, this culinary journey takes you to the famous cheese cave in the Saanenland. During your visit, you’ll learn more about the region’s long tradition of cheese-making and get a glimpse of the countless cheese wheels stored in the cave.
Afterward, the experience gets even more special: Pick up a fondue or raclette backpack at the Gstaad Dairy and head out to one of the giant caquelons in Fondueland. The backpack contains everything you need for your outdoor adventure—from regional cheese and bread to the caquelon.
Surrounded by nature and with a view of the Gstaad mountains, Swiss cheese tastes twice as good. For the final evening, you’ll return to the Bernerhof Swiss Quality Hotel Gstaad, where the five-day culinary journey concludes with a group dinner.
